Limited Preview of Microsoft Office Web Apps 2010

September 17, 2009 Leave a comment

Microsoft is making a limited preview of Office Web Apps, as introduction for Office 2010, and for more widely-available beta of Web Apps will arrive this fall. I’ve got this information from ReadWriteWeb.

And here is the summary.

Word:

  • Sharing capability is a big improvement.
  • Users have to install Silverlight for zooming in and out.

Excel:

  • Lightweight version of ‘desktop’ Excel.
  • Charting feature not included.

Powerpoint:

  • Slide decks are not available.
  • Allow full editing for anyone.

All of them will be embeded on Internet Explorer, the native browser from Microsoft. And i think, this is just the begining of how Microsoft, Google Docs and any other vendors that develop Web-based  Spreadsheet processor  will do anything to engage loyal users.
